Semur-en-Auxois, the town of great towers
With its great round towers standing on pink rock above the Armançon river, Semur-en-Auxois is one of Burgundy's most beautiful medieval towns. People come to wander, for the view and for the gentle Auxois countryside.

What to see and do
The towers and the Pont Joly
The four towers of the old keep, including the Orle d'Or tower, overlook the river. The view from the Pont Joly bridge, especially late in the day, is the town's most famous picture.
The collegiate church of Notre-Dame
A tall, slender Gothic church with fine stained glass and carvings to discover at your own pace.
The Sauvigny gate and the old town
Enter the old town through the Sauvigny gate, then get lost in the lanes, among half-timbered houses and small shops.
The Lac de Pont
A few minutes away, this lake surrounded by woods has a summer beach and a footpath all the way round.
The Course de la Bague
At the end of May, Semur hosts the Course de la Bague, a horse race whose tradition goes back to the 17th century. A lovely spring festival.
Opening times change with the seasons: check before you go. Our favourite addresses (producers, restaurants, markets) are in the welcome book of every house.
